Transformational Storytelling

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2012. My reaction to this startling news, and my subsequent responses to the phases of diagnosis, active treatment, and recuperation moved me deeply, often in positive ways.
The completion of my active cancer treatment in October of that year dovetailed with the start of my painting season in November. The theme for that new cycle, The Light From Here, allowed me to translate my experiences into color, symbol, and story. The process revealed and, ultimately, healed some of the layers that had not yet mended.
Each painting evolved over a period of weeks, brought forth by a combination of contemplation, intuition, and artistic study. Part way into the project, I felt called to write essays to accompany and offer insight into the stories on the canvas.
Four years in the making, my book The Light From Here shares my struggles and breakthroughs as I made my way through anxiety, a cancer diagnosis, and healing. The stories, enhanced by twenty eight color plates of my artwork, paint a vivid, poignant, and ultimately triumphant progression of my journey to health.
